Shortly after the Penn State women’s volleyball season winds down, fans switch gears to enjoy the 2011 season for men’s college volleyball. As the 2011 men’s volleyball season kicks off, the Penn State Nittany Lions hope to win another EVA championship in 2011 and will shoot for another chance at the NCAA National Championship.
Highlights of the competitive season ahead include matches against nine teams ranked in the final AVCA Division I-II Top 15 poll. The 2011 men’s volleyball season will match #5 ranked Penn State against #3 ranked Cal State Northridge, #4 ranked Hawaii, #8 ranked Beach State, #13 ranked Loyola-Chicago and #14 ranked Ball State.
Penn State Men’s Volleyball Starts with Preseason Tournament
The Penn State men’s volleyball begins the 2011 season with the Outrigger Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Scheduled matches for the Outrigger Invitational include:
- January 13 (Thursday) vs. UCLA at 9:00 p.m. ET
- January 14 (Friday) vs. Hawaii at 12:00 a.m. ET
- January 15 (Saturday) vs. Ball State at 9:00 p.m. ET
The UCLA match will be a warm-up to the regular season match scheduled against number 9 ranked UCLA in March.

The excitement of the PSU men’s volleyball 2011 season takes off mid January with matches scheduled through April leading up to EVA and NCAA tournaments.

Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) matches include: Saint Francis (Pa.), Springfield, Princeton, Rutgers-Newark and George Mason. PSU men’s volleyball fans can get tickets to watch all 14 home matches at the Recreation Hall in University Park.
2011 EIVA and NCAA Men’s Volleyball Tournament Schedules
With a record of 21 EIVA Championship titles, 24 NCAA appearances and two NCAA Championship titles (1994 and 2008), the Penn State men’s volleyball team is hopeful to continue their winning streak into the 2011 tournament season.
- Matches scheduled for the 2011 EIVA and NCAA tournaments include:
- April 23 (Saturday) – EIVA Quarterfinals held at location and time to be announced
- April 28 (Thursday) – EIVA Semifinals held at location and time to be announced
- April 30 (Saturday) – EIVA Championship held at location and time to be announced
- May 5 (Thursday) – NCAA Semifinals held at University Park, PA at time to be announced
- May 7 (Saturday) – NCAA Final held at University Park, PA at time to be announced
Typically televised nationwide, NCAA Tournament tickets are in high demand for men’s volleyball and the 2011 season will be especially exciting if for PSU fans if Penn State is in the running for the title during the final matches scheduled on home courts in University Park.
